The FBI has released new details about a suspect in the ongoing investigation into the kidnapping of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie.
The Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping Investigation Continues
On Thursday, Feb. 12, the FBI’s Phoenix field office announced that the reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s location, or the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance, has been increased to $100,000. The reward had previously been set at $50,000 for information resulting in her recovery or the apprehension of those involved.
Investigators also provided an updated physical description of the suspect, based on forensic analysis conducted by the FBI’s Operational Technology Division using previously obtained doorbell camera footage.
According to authorities, the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping suspect is described as a male standing approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build. In the footage, he is seen wearing a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack. Officials believe these additional details may help focus and refine tips from the public.
Since the investigation began on Feb. 1, the FBI has received more than 13,000 tips. Each submission is reviewed for credibility, relevance, and actionable information. Personnel from the National Threat Operations Center, along with agents and investigators, are operating a 24-hour command post where leads are continuously evaluated and assigned for follow-up.
Family Willing to Pay Ransom
Nancy Guthrie, 84, is believed to have been abducted from her longtime Tucson, Arizona home during the early morning hours of Feb. 1. Authorities have stated they believe she was taken against her will, prompting a large-scale investigation involving federal and local law enforcement.
Days later, individuals believed to be connected to the abduction sent alleged ransom notes to several media outlets. On Feb. 7, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings posted a video message expressing their willingness to comply with demands, saying, “We will pay.”
A significant development occurred on Feb. 10, when authorities released surveillance images and video showing an armed individual approaching Nancy Guthrie’s front porch. The person was wearing a ski mask, gloves, a zip-up jacket, and carrying a backpack. In one video, the individual appears to tamper with the Nest doorbell camera.
Savannah Guthrie later shared the images publicly, urging anyone who might recognize the suspect to come forward, writing, “Someone out there recognizes him. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home.”
Investigators are continuing to gather evidence, including reviewing footage from Ring and Nest cameras in the surrounding neighborhood. A black glove recovered near the home is also undergoing DNA testing.
Savannah Guthrie has remained in Arizona with her family as the search continues. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
