Harvey Weinstein Guilty of Sexual Act

Harvey Weinstein, 73, was found guilty today of one count of criminal sexual act but was cleared of a second similar charge. A New York jury convicted him of forcing oral sex on former TV production assistant Miriam Haley, 48, at his Manhattan apartment in July 2006. However, they acquitted him of a separate allegation that he forcibly performed oral sex on model Kaja Sokola, then 19, later that same year.

Jury Deadlocked on Third-Degree Rape

The jury remains deadlocked on a third accusation—third-degree rape brought by actress Jessica Mann, who says Weinstein assaulted her in a New York hotel room in 2013. Jurors are set to reconvene on Thursday, June 12, to continue deliberations on that count.

During five days of deliberations, tensions flared in the jury room. According to court testimony, one juror complained of feeling bullied after another juror threatened, “I’ll meet you outside one day,” leading to shouting and tears. Weinstein’s defense team sought a mistrial, but Judge Curtis Farber denied the request.

This retrial comes after the New York Court of Appeals overturned Weinstein’s 2020 conviction—where he’d been sentenced to 23 years for first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree rape—on the grounds that the trial judge improperly allowed testimony about allegations not formally part of the case. Separately, his 2022 California conviction for rape and sexual assault remains in place.

Harvey Weinstein Accused by Multiple Women

Weinstein, who has been accused by dozens of women and whose initial 2017 prosecution helped spark the #MeToo movement, did not testify in his own defense. In a brief interview on Fox 5’s “Good Day New York,” he said he followed his lawyers’ advice to remain silent to avoid being “ripped apart” by prosecutors. He expressed regret for acting “immorally” and sympathy for his family’s ordeal, yet insisted none of his conduct was unlawful.

Outside the courtroom, Weinstein’s health struggles have also been in the spotlight. Reports indicate he’s been treated for bone marrow cancer and underwent emergency heart surgery at Bellevue Hospital in 2024.

As the jury continues to weigh the remaining charge, the outcome will determine whether another conviction will stick—or if Weinstein will walk away once more with only a partial verdict against him.
